I have been away for quite a while. Mostly because I took a break from crafting this summer and spent a lot of time with the kids at the pool or travelling. Here is my That’s Hot! layout. This shows my husband and son about 10 years ago. I thought it was so sweet that hubby set up a tent and got all the bath tub toys out and got in the pool with him. My son, Griffin was afraid of water so this was a big deal, no tears here.

I used American Crafts summer collection appropriately called Heat Wave. I also got out the stickles because I don’t do too much without them! I couldn’t resist adding some of my favorite button embellishments either so they could “float” in the waves.

A Reminder About That’s Hot Blog Hop This Saturday!

On to other matters…. we survived the Clinton County Fair in mid-July. I got all blue ribbons for my creations that I entered which will be posted later today, hopefully. They were 3 double-layouts, 3 single layouts and also 3 photographs that were taken on my vacation.

My children did well too. I am so proud of all 3 of them. Griffin, who just finished 7th grade, entered a trio of photos that he took at the Quad City Air Show in June. The pictures are some very awesome aerial shots of non other than the Navy’s own Blue Angels. His photo trio, which was cleverly matted, got State Fair consideration. That was so exciting because he had never used the camera before that day (it was my new one). He has a very good eye for picture taking. This was his 3rd year in 4H and the fair.

The twins also did well and it was their first year to be in 4H and be judged. They had previously been in Clover Kids which is for K-3 but are not judged, and only got participation ribbons those years. However, this year Gretchen did a decopauge project out of a wooden letter G for her room and got a red ribbon (though I really don’t agree with the comments she was given- but live and learn) and her photo that she also used my camera for the first time, took a blue ribbon. Gillian entered a wonderful project that was done for school in the spring. It was a state float and was very well researched and put together. She got a blue ribbon.

School starts in just 13 days here. I hope the heat will subside because not all the kids have air conditioning in the school right now. We have had over 2 weeks of 90 plus heat and it is miserable. We actually found it too hot to go to the pool, as did many around our area. Several city pools dumped ice in the water to cool it down but a few of them had to close because even that didn’t work!

Griffin is in Colorado with 14 other members of our church’s youth. They are in Estes Park at a Youth Conference for our denomination which is CLB or Church of the Lutheran Bretheran . I know they are having a wonderful time. They are expected back late Sunday, as it is a 14 hour plus drive. Thanks go to our Youth Pastor Jason and Youth Coordinator, Pam for driving this lively bunch out and back and giving them such a wonderful experience.

The best part about the trip that Griffin is taking is that he almost didn’t get to go. Just a week before they were to leave he had a pretty bad seizure and it was the first one in almost 2 1/2 years. We did a lot of praying and decided that he would be ok to still attend the conference. He is ok and as long as he doesn’t forget to take his meds, he should continue to remain ok. I know it scared him so I think he understands that when we ask if he took his medicine he better not say yes when he means no. It is so hard with a 13 1/2 year old because you constantly remind him and he gets a little angry and then you decide to let him to let him be responsible on his own and he slips up and HE pays the price.

The title of my layout is “Those 70’s Friends”.

I cut out flowers from the paper and popped them up, added more glitter and bling.

Then we can “Flash Forward to the 80’s”. I moved away to a new school but still kept in touch

with “Those 70’s Friends”. We got together on my birthday and in the summer as much as possible.

These two layouts are glitter paper and glitter flowers, glitter

chipboard pieces and glitter Thickers.

A leak in my ceiling ruined the top of the 2nd page but I didn’t have time to re-do it, sorry.

Confirmation Sunday…… and School is OUT for Summer!

Hi All! Well, my 10 year old twin girls and my 13 year old son are out of school now for the summer. Tuesday was their last day. Griffin’s tradition for the last 3 years or so has been to blast the song by Alice Cooper – “School’s Out.” Crazy, huh? Where did he learn this? Well, being that his father and I are children of the 80’s we are crazy enough to own the Muppet Show DVD collection. One of the episodes features Alice Cooper himself as the host. One of his songs on the show was indeed “School’s Out.” It is so funny! I am not an Alice Cooper fan but my husband was/is. In fact for our 13th wedding anniversary we had front row seats to see Alice Cooper. It wasn’t too bad. I actually knew more songs than I thought I would – THAT might have been the scariest part!

Funny thing is that I have learned from my pastor at church that Alice Cooper is the son of a preacher. And that he IS a Christian. He has been interviewed many times stating that he is a Christian and that he is not, nor never was a Devil worshipper. He does not condone such practices either. He has really cleaned up his act and it is all “for show”. Well… ok. So for your viewing pleasure, lets go back 32 years to 1978 and watch! And…. since I was on the subject of Christianity (sort of ) let me share with you the other highlight of last weekend for myself and my family. Griffin was confirmed at our church, DeWitt Lutheran Fellowship. We are so proud of him. He learned a lot in the last 2 years. At our church, being confirmed is no easy task. The young confirmands have to do much memorization and question answering right in front of the whole congregation! This year they were able to write an essay and read it to the congregation if the memorization made them too nervous. It was very intense and detailed. They each had 2 topics. When they were finished they each received their new personally engraved Bibles and a few of the Elders came up to pray with them/ for them. It was a wonderful and proud moment.

We were very lucky to share this special day with most of the Lenth family from up north and my parents who are a little closer to us. We also had many friends from various aspects of our lives, who came to witness the ceremony. It was wonderful.

Well, Gretchen has worked hard all week during dress rehearsal for her dance recital. Tonight is night one and she has a few fans that will be in the audience (besides her mom and sister!). We are so proud of her. What a change from the tiny girl who wanted her “reward” from Gigi during senior awards 7 years ago. Tonight will be her stage debut as a member of the Ambassador Dance Team.

The title of this post says it all for me this week! My 10 year old daughter, Gretchen has her 7th dance recital this weekend. This week we have had dance lessons already and one of two nights of rehearsal. She dances at a Christian Dance Studio. We love it. She started with her twin sister Gillian when they were 3 1/2. However, Sissy stopped dancing a few years back. Gretchen plans to dance all the way til she graduates high school.

My Completed Challenges for Creative Scrapbooking Divas

I finally got some solid scrapbook time in this weekend. The whole Mother’s Day thing is what did it for me, if you want to know! LOL Breakfast in bed served by 3 singing children and a day where mom gets to do anything she wants and “ we won’t fight, whine or be negative, mom”.

So here are the fruits of my labor. We have many more challenges than those shown on the blog hop on Saturday. Stop by Creative Scrapbooking Divas and tell them DT Ann sent you!

1st we have a layout for the Mom and Me BOM (Book of Me) Group. This is me at 2 mos. in April, 1967, with my mom. The layout was inspired from a layout in the June/July issue of Creating Keepsakes Magazine. The patterned paper that makes up the paper quilt and all of the chipboard embellishments and the sticker boarder are from the new line from Crate Paper called Emma’s Doll Shoppe.

The next layout is from Stephanie’s Royal Wedding Themed Challenge – Something Old, New, Borrowed and Blue.

The layout on the top is my “Borrowed” and is an Anna Griffin ad in the June/July 2011 Creating Keepsakes Magazine. My “old” is the paper used in the layout on the right. It is an old Bo Bunny kit that I have had for over 2 years. My “new” is the technique that I used which was the layered banners that shows the title of Griffin. The journaling says “you are my bright and shining star.” And I think you all can see the “blue” in the layout. LOL. This is a pic of my baby boy, Griffin at age 3 1/2 in 2001. He just now turned 13 in February, 2011

This layout is from Yolie’s One Photo Challenge. The paper and embellishments are from Cosmo Cricket. The picture is from 4 1/2 years ago. This shows my children and my brother’s only children at that time. This was the only meeting that the 5 of them have ever had. And yes, there are 2 sets of twins there- my girls are fraternal twins and his boys are identical twins. You can see the title : “No Baby for Me?” is what my blondie twin was saying to the photographer. No matter how much she complained, she never got to hold a baby in the picture. This the best shot that was taken. Sweet Gretchen was unhappy in all of them and the babies really had a hard time sitting still and we never did get smiles from them.

Hi Hoppers! I have 2 “rooms” in the Diva Mansion: The Gadget Guru and the Mixin’ It Up group.

The Gadget Guru Group is the place to go to check out what kind of fun tools and gadgets are being introduced.

My 2nd stop on my portion of the tour will be to the Mixin’ It Up group.

This group is designed to help you think outside the box on your pages. Each of the challenges that I post here will involve a "recipe". Just as a recipe when you cook involves the mixing of ingredients, so does a scrapbook recipe.

Here are a few of my favorite challenges we have done:

1.) You MUST use the word GO in your layout/card. This should be the theme as well.

2) Use 1 printed piece of paper.

3) use a quote either printed, hand written, on vellum, stickers etc.

Challenge # 1 Recipe from 2010

(yields 1 12 x 12 layout)

Use at least 3 different ribbons (any size or color)

Mix in 2 circles

add 1 photograph

use strips of paper for your journaling

sprinkle with flowers as desired

note: flowers look very nice when button centers are used

finish buttons with "thread" (optional)

How Was Your Ressurection Sunday / Easter Weekend?

My family was scattered a bit over our Easter holiday. The kids were off school Thursday – Monday. One went to the Northern Iowa grandparents’ Wednesday night and was suppose to come home today. Poor thing called Thursday night at 10:45 pm and was crying her eyes out. She was homesick. She is 10 and was the last of the kids I would have expected to get this call from. The whole thing was her idea to go up there. Alas, grandma and grandpa are in their mid 80’s and don’t have internet or expanded cable so she got a little bored. She said she read all 5 books she brought and was tired of playing solitaire. Poor thing.

The hubby and son had to cancel their camping trip due to rain, so they were here until Saturday, when they went up to join Gretchen.

Gillian (the other twin girl) and I stayed here with our dog Charlie, who is not allowed to go to the NE Iowa family’s house. He was wrongly accused of soiling a piece of furniture almost 5 years ago. He has never done it before or since so I really don’t think he was guilty. Nonetheless, it is hard to find someone to take care of him, though he is really a good dog; and we just can’t pay to have him boarded all the time. Gillian and I visited my aunt after church on Sunday and had Taco John’s for lunch, her choice .

We were invited to a most excellent Sunday Evening Dinner at our Pastors’ house. That is plural because they are father and son. We were at the “elder” pastor’s house and were treated to an unbelievable meal. It was like a gourmet dinner – grilled beef loin, walnut and fetta salad, grilled asparagus; the WORKS! They were so kind to offer their hospitality when learning that Gillian and I were home alone. Gillian had a great time as well as the “junior” pastor has a daughter that is in her grade. It was also a treat because Gretchen wasn’t there to “hog” young Catherine’s attention! LOL All kidding aside, I am so greatful for that invitation. Dinner was great and so was the movie! Thank you!!!

Here is a picture of the cards I whipped up before we went over to their house. I apologize because the lighting is bad and I took the picture with my cell phone. The cards were made with pink and blue paper. It was all cut out on my Cricut Imagine machine. I used pop dots to pop up the bunny and the grass and flowers. I used Stickles to decorate the eggs and flowers and grass.

Spring Cleaning….. & Then Some!

Hey followers! I have been so busy doing spring cleaning at my house. I am not only cleaning but I am preparing the house for some home improvements we will be making this summer. I am excited about these and once they begin, I will post pictures of the progress. I would say it won’t be until June though, depends on the schedule of the contractor.

Another part of my spring cleaning is cleaning out my email files – more that 2000 emails in each of 4 email addresses! YIKES!

And I am getting things lined up to be able to post here a lot more regularly! HURRAY!

One of the first things that will be posted is the fact that two different lovely and talented blogger friends have awarded me with the Versatile Blogger Award.

One was on March 29 and one was April 17.

I will have details about this tomorrow and since I was slow on this, I will be awarding 30 people this award (rules state to share with 15 people).

So how is your spring cleaning going? Quite a chore, but worth it in the end, huh?

What’s Happening Around Here?

Where does my time go? I swear that if I actually crafted as much as I spend looking at magazines and online galleries, I would have a million layouts and projects!

Sometimes I just get too excited at all the possibilities and then do nothing. Why is that? Do you have that problem too?

My big news for today is that I broke down and joined the Cricut Circle today. Ok, truthfully, I broke my husband down….. I just couldn’t stand not being a part of it anymore. But hey, with all the cartridges and the 3 different Cricuts, a Cuttlebug and a Gypsy, why not ?

However, the hubby did tell me that I do not need the 5th Anniversary Cricut Expression! Well, I know that I don’t need it but…… What can I sell to pay for that new gem? I am hopelessly bitten by that darn bug!

More later… including highlights from my Weekend to Remember sponsored by FamilyLife.com. Hubby and I will attend that this weekend.

Well, Happy Spring to all of you! I don’t know about you, but I was ready to see the calendar show the first day of Spring. However, Mother Nature has not complied here in my neck of the woods (Eastern Iowa). It is 28 degrees at 10:50 p.m. The heat is on and a blanket is covering my cold toes.

I have been working pretty hard on some projects but haven’t had time to take pictures of them yet. The camera battery died. Does anyone else have that problem? A digital camera that really eats up your batteries? I have to buy the Energizer blue lithium ones but they still don’t last as long as I would like. If I don’t use those I get only 3 to 4 pictures per set of batteries. I am not kidding about this one.

It is a nice Kodak Easy Share and I have had for 3 years I think. I have seen a new one that I would like to have to replace it but I hope it isn’t a battery eater like this one.

I hope you are having a nice Spring so far. I hope you also get a chance to enjoy some of the events and blog hops I have listed here. If you know of other blog hops please let me know where I can get the blinky to add it here.

My Babies are 10 Now!

My baby girls are 10 as of Valentine’s Day and my baby boy is 13 and a teenager as of Feb 17. Wow. It really hit me.

So here are a few layouts of my kiddos when they were little.

This first one is of the twins on the day they left the hospital. I really had fun making this. I used glossy accents on the stickers and lots of stickles.

This is my son when he was 3 1/2 and the girls were 8 months old in September of 2001. He loved giving his sister a ride in his truck!

Here is a card that I made on my imagine. I don’t use it enough. So I thought I would enter the challenge that Robyn over at My Pink Stamper had for this week.

Well, my owl and phrase ended up being bigger than what it should be in order to put on the pre-made card. But it is for my friend’s 4 year old son, and she is here while I am making it. She said to just unfold the card and put it on, so I did! Scrappy friends never let you down!

Tip of the Week from Creative Scrapbook Divas

"The Sky is the Limit". Most of the time when you are reaching for goals or ideas, you can say that the sky is the limit. It really leaves you thinking that anything is possible. When it comes to scrapbooking this really holds true. Or does it?

Scrapbooking to most is preserving memories through documentation of a photo or series of photos. The very basics of this hobby would include adhering a photo, adding the who, what, when, where, why and how through journaling, titles, stickers, etc. But these are not your only options.

Consider a moment of your day when your child says something cute or funny and you are driving in the car. You can't take a picture of that child because you are a) driving and b) do you really want to take a picture of the child talking?

Because your child is cute and clever, it is easy to remember what they said, so you write it down when you get home. And that is it.....right? WRONG! That piece of paper will get tossed about, crumpled, used to spit out gum into and probably thrown away. But, if you take the piece of paper and sit down and scrap it right away, you can preserve the memory forever.

What? You don't have a photo so how can you scrap? You don't have to have a photo to make a scrapbook page. The thing to do in this situation is to journal. Journalling isn't just making note of what the child said, you will talk about where you were, what you and the child/ family was doing AND what was said. Then you talk about the reaction of what was said. Were you the only one that thought it was cute and or funny? What did others say? DO YOU GET THE PICTURE? LOL

You can handwrite the journaling or use the computer. Then add stickers and even a die cut if there is one that is appropriate at your disposal. And voila' you have a scrapbook page without a photo AND the moment is preserved forever.

So, you ask what this has to do with the sky? And what exactly is my tip? Well, just maybe the sky is NOT the limit. Maybe you can reach higher, farther and wider anytime you want to capture and preserve a moment forever. I seem to recall the "rules of scrapbooking" says there ARE NO RULES. That means there aren't any limits to what you can do.

CS Divas “Be My Valentine” Blog Hop–Day 6

Hello all!

Today I am sharing a layout I just did yesterday. This is a picture of my 3 kids in 2005. So the twins (girls) are 4 and my son is 7 here. This was taken by one of those photographers that went around to daycares and such and took old fashioned photos. I got the big package. I got the proofs, the canvas and so on. I remember that my husband said it was my mother’s day gift. I will most likely be sharing more layouts made with these pictures, but for now this is the only one.

I used just some paper that looks distressed and lots of fun K&Company embellishments. The flowers are from Prima.

CSDivas Be My Valentine Blog Hop…. Day 2

I am just sharing some more projects with you that are Valentine related. These are not part of my challenge, but feel free to “scraplift” and adapt and post them at CS Divas anyway – I don’t mind

So here is a card that I made for my nephew Jared, who will be 26 this year. We are so proud of him, the eldest of the Lenth grandchildren. He is in the Navy and finished 2nd in his class at his schooling down in Florida. The base where he is right now is where the Navy Blue Angels take off from. So even though Jared is not a pilot, I thought I would make him this card because this is the idea that popped in my head!

I cut the jets flying in formation from my Stand and Salute cartridge. I cut the banner and the clouds from the same cartridge. I inked the edges of all the cuts and used stickles on the clouds.

The banner is my hand writing and I hate it. I should have used the computer. Oh well…..

The inside of the card shows my handwriting again and the Valentine’s Day is cut out from Designer Calendar. All die cuts are from my Imagine, however the inside phrase was the only one cut AND printed with Imagine ink. The others were cardstock. The heart buttons are from my stash. The ones on the front are filled in with Stickles.

Hello all! I will reveal a few more birthdays to you now….

Today, the 7th is my cousin Nikki’s birthday. The 9th is my friend Mary’s who was in my wedding; The 10th is my brother-in-law Kim’s; the 11th is my cousin’s son Hunter’s birthday and my friend’s son Raymond’s and my dear college “big brother” Brad’s birthday. The 12th is my sister-in-law Corinne’s birthday; the 13th is my dad’s and my cousin Kim’s birthday. and that takes us to…… drum roll please…..

VALENTINE’S DAY – which is when my twin girls Gretchen and Gillian were born 10 years ago!

But wait, there is more….. but I will share those later!

Here also are a few more of my favorite Valentine themed projects but I will have all new ones each and every day through February 14th for our hop!

This is entitled “You Say its Your Birthday” and it is my twin girl’s 5th birthday which was 6 years ago Valentine’s Day.

This was from last year when my niece came down for the twins’ birthday.

Let's move to my project for today.... This is not a traditional Valentine’s Day Layout, but it was made with lots of love and it reflects the love that I have for my beautiful life! What you see here are pictures of me and the many hats that I wear. I am a scrapper, a Christian, a mom, a friend, a cousin, a granddaughter, a wife and JUST ME!

I used Co’ordinations cardstock for my base and sanded it with the Tim Holtz sanding grip.

I distressed the edges of the cardstock and some of the printed paper with my Making Memories distress tool.

My printed paper and coordinating paper design elements are from Cosmo Criket.

Letter stickers are from My Little Shoe Box

Buttons, raffia, ribbon, ric rac and fabric are from my stash

Ann’s Birthday Bash!

February is a very busy and special month for myself and my family. We celebrate over 28 birthdays with family and friends this month. In my household alone, 4 out of 5 of us have February birthdays! I would like to have 150 followers by the end of the month. Can you help me? I will have an awesome prize for one random follower if we reach or exceed that goal! I will post the prize this weekend.

February 3rd is the day to celebrate a cousin and a friend! Happy Birthday to Deanna and Molly!

MY birthday is February 4. I am still a kid at heart. I love birthdays. I don’t care about my age, though as you can see, I haven’t revealed it! Anyways, I still love to get cards but when you reach a certain age, you don’t get as many in the mail anymore. So I am gonna be a little crazy and ask you all to make me a card. Of course you don’t have to send it to me in the mail, just make a card and leave me a comment and a link where I can find the card. The card doesn’t need to be personalized for me, you can actually mail it to someone else, but please use this challenge to make a “new” card. I will give a “birthday present” to one random person who sends me some birthday love! I will give you until midnight central time on February 7th to do this.

“Owl” Tell You About It!

I have to share with you that I love owls. I do not know why but I do. Maybe it is a flower power 70’s thing. The 70’s were my early formative years. So maybe in those years an owl inspired me. Was it the owl that said, “Give a Hoot, Don’t Pollute” ? Or maybe the owl that was asked, “How many licks does it take to get to the middle of a Tootsie Pop”? Oh, this is reaching a little further back.. there was some sort of crazy owl in shows like “The New Zoo Revue” or even “H.R. Puff ‘N Stuff”.

So as a Cricut owner x 3 (Baby Bug, Expression and Imagine") I have decided I need cartridges with birds and/or Owls on it. I have to find an excuse to use these. I will admit some of these cartridges just weren’t necessary and I will be really reaching for reasons to use them. Really, how many phrases with the word “OWL” in it do I want to use?

For Christmas, a friend of my mom’s got my 3 children some crafty gifts. She is always so sweet to remember them witch such wonderful and creative things. So out comes one of my owl cartridges to make a thank you note for her.

Here it is! Straight from my Cricut Imagine nonetheless!

I made this with my Imagine, as I said. I used the layers function and the owl body is 2 layers plus the wings and his tummy and peak are popped up. I added a little of the new color from Stickles called True Blue. The words are hard to see clearly but it does say “From Owl of Us”. It is also in 2 layers with True Blue Stickles.

The card base was a box of miscellaneous cards from DCWV (Die Cuts With a View). There is a pattern or solid color on each card front and back.

I added some organza ribbon and a strip of white and polka dot blue ribbon and attached with my tiny attacher.

I don’t show the inside but it is just a blue cardstock stamped with the word “thanks”. I then faux stitched the border with my white paint pen.

You probably came from CSDivas a.k.a. Creative Scrapbooking Divas site where I was first on the list. You can see the full list there, but for now, on to my challenge!

My layout is about Christmas Trees and Decorating. I am proud of our Christmas tree because we have had it for 15 years. We love having a white tree. Our kids started decorating about the time they turned 3. They are now nearly 10 and 13. This last year, one of the twins decided to take pictures of her sister decorating the tree. I really loved the shots she took, even if some of them were a bit blurry. I saw the opportunity to use them in a layout.

Here is my layout:

Some of my favorite techniques featured in this layout are:

On the left page I used lightbulb buttons for a string of lights and white Flower Soft to simulate my white tree. I also used my Cricut for my title. I used the Winter Frolic cartridge and cut it in grey as a shadow, inking the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink and then coordinating pattern paper for the main title and then added Stickles.

For the right page I used lace behind the tree die cut. I used the Winter Frolic cartridge to cut the tree in white and inked edges with Distress Ink and then cut again with coordinating paper and inked edges with Distress Ink. I also painted the star and tree trunk with Smooch; used Flower Soft for the snowy effect; buttons with Stickles for ornaments and present buttons. I overlapped the tree die cuts just slightly and then used the inked edge of white paper to do my journaling.

The printed paper I used was from the Holiday Collection from Echo Park.

I offer this layout as an inspiration, rather than a challenge actually. I hope you will do at least one of several choices:

Use multiple photos
make a one or two page layout about decorating – either for Christmas, birthday or any such special celebration
scraplift one or both pages of my layout – remember, it is somewhere to start- you can turn it side-ways, upside down, etc.
use an embellishment that is at least 10 inches tall – this can be a single item or a cluster of items. Ribbon does not count. Should be a die cut or flowers, buttons, brads, etc.

I will have a RAK for a random entry. You just need to : of course register as a member of the Diva Site, become a follower of my blog and submit your entry to Ann's HIR Challenge Entries and leave a comment here.

For the last year I have mainly been blogging about my life as a scrapper. What many of you don’t know about is my life as a genealogist. I have been working on my family history for over 7 years now and am almost obsessed with it as much as scrapping. Too bad for my hubby, cuz it would have been cheaper if I would not have discovered scrapping 3 years ago!

I've received the Ancestors Approved award from Homestead Mommy at Footsteps Past Thank you so much! Ancestors Approved was started by Leslie Ann at Ancestors Lived Here.
I'm suppose to share 10 things about my ancestors that have surprised, humbled or enlightened me and share this award with 10 other bloggers.

Ok… so I will share those 10 things with you now!

1. My paternal great grandfather worked in the bicycle shop with the Wright brothers in Dayton, Ohio he also knew the Patterson of Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

2. my paternal great, great grandfather fought in the civil war. He was from Pennsylvania and oddly enough was a guard in Rock Island at a Confederate prison on the island during the last 100 days of the war. How cool is it that 120 years or so later I would marry a man who is an engineer at the Rock Island arsenal and works in the building where the museum is. My great, great grandfather is in a picture on the wall there in the museum

3. I really never expected to get far in this whole family history thing. I only searched ancestry.com on a whim. I thought that since I lived in Iowa and my relatives were from Ohio I would never find anything. boy, I was sure wrong.

4. My paternal great great great grandparents were either Amish or Mennonite. They were from Lancaster Pennsylvania.

5. while there are hardly any Stauffer (my maiden name)families where I live it is not the same in Pennsylvania. evidently, the Stauffer families that came to Pennsylvania were invited by William Penn himself.

6. I am this close…. to becoming a member of the daughters of the American revolution because of Stauffer soldiers. I have to narrow down the exact one and how he fits in my tree. the problem is that the Stauffer people sure liked the same names and it is really getting confusing for me. Who ever thought there would be two Hiram Stauffer’s and they would both be from Lancaster County And both married to ladies named Mary. there may even be some on my mom’s side when I dig a little deeper.

7. I found a picture of my paternal great great grandfather on the internet. there were some antique photo online people who were selling it. they found it in a Springfield, Ohio antique store. He was quite short. and here I always thought that the height in our family came from the Stauffer side.

8. My maternal great grandparents were both born in Ireland. and my other set of maternal great grandparents were born in Germany.

9. my grandpa’s only sister (with 5 boys being raised by the parents), who was quite a bit older than him, was raised by her maternal grandmother who owned a hotel in the early 1900’s in Ohio. She made the society column of the newspaper quite often with things like where she went on vacation or who’s party she went to. the Sapp’s were quite the society people in those days.

10. My mom had a cousin who was a twin and he died at the bombing of pearl harbor during world war two.

Hello followers. We are 8 days into the new year of 2011 now. How is it going for you? Have you made any resolutions? Have you broken any yet? I know, it is so easy to say “I Am going to do this…” and then somehow the days pass and a year goes by and “I just never did do that!”. Jokingly I started saying, “I resolve to not make any more resolutions.” That may be the only resolution I have ever kept!

Seriously, make them goals instead of resolutions. Set some of your goals really high and aim for them. Don’t be discouraged when you don’t make all of them, at least you tried. Make some of your goals easy to achieve, cuz after all, you need to see some progress or you won’t want to pursue the easy ones, let alone the lofty ones. And set some goals just a little bit out of reach and really give it your all to make those. Those will be the the “warm fuzzy” goals that will just make you feel so proud and happy.

Here are a few of mine:

Getting up at 6:30 a.m. and staying up all day without napping and then going to bed at a decent time. (ok it is 2 a.m. as I write this – how do you think I am doing?)

Exercising on the Wii Fit and also with the Just Dance game EVERY DAY

Being on time. I was born late and have been late with everything ever since. 2011 will be the year that I fix that. I will even take an improvement – lets say only 5 minutes late instead of 15!

I want to start a scrapbook custom made business and also teach some classes in scrapbooking, and other paper crafts.

I am reading blogs and Facebook updates from people all over the US. People are frantic about things being sold out or on backorder. They worry about what this person or that will think if they don’t get the right gift. They don’t want to disappoint the children if they don’t get them everything on their list.

People, STOP rushing around and spending great gobs of money to find that perfect gift. Take the stress off yourself! EVERYONE is entitled to the same gift each year! One size fits all… It isn’t sold out and it is FREE for the taking. In fact HE paid for it! The ONE true gift. The GREATEST gift of all... Jesus Christ. And better yet, you don't have to wait til' Christmas to give or receive THIS gift! Go ahead and peek - heck why don't you just UNWRAP it now! I promise I won’t tell. I won’t have to.… But please, you can go ahead and SHARE with everyone what you got!

I know this is preachy and I know it isn’t craft related but – I wanted to share with you anyway. My gift to each of you is that I will pray that YOU will GET this gift for YOURSELF too!

I want to say Merry Christmas right now to all of my friends and family and followers.

Christmas Preparations at Our House

We have managed to squeak right thru November and into a snow filled December! No doubt we will have a white Christmas here in Iowa. I can predict that even though it is less than 10 days away.... As I write this we are being hit by a snow storm that is bound to produce 5". This is on top of the snow and ice we already have! Unless we have a huge heatwave - the snow will be staying!

We put up our Christmas tree this year. We bought it 17 years ago when we got engaged. It was our after Christmas buy. It is a beautiful 7 1/2' white tree. Thru the years it has been decorated with all Wizard of Oz ornaments, handmade ornaments, and old ornaments. Our kids are nearly 10 and 13 so we have also managed to collect favorite Hallmark ornaments for each of them. They really enjoy putting them on each year! This year Gretchen helped James with the lights and both girls put up the garland.

Our Christmas shopping is finished for the most part... I will talk about that tomorrow....

Christmas Time is Just Around the Corner…

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. How about those shopping deals!? Black Friday…Super Saturday…. Cyber Monday…. Pink Tuesday…..Merry Monday….. wow!

Our household has simplified our Christmas gift buying somehow. We are just one shopping day away from being completely finished. I think one thing that has made it easier is the kids are 9 1/2 and 12 1/2 and they don’t want toys anymore. Video games, watches, books and movies is what they want now. Its great when these things go on sale and they don’t break the bank. Thankfully we aren’t into the “can’t find it gift of the year”.

Our tree is up. My husband and I have had this tree for the 16 years we have been married. It is a beautiful white artificial tree that stands 7 1/2 feet tall. The garland and lights are up and only a few of the kids’ homemade ornaments have been hung but I still find it quite beautiful.

The one thing I don’t have finished is my Christmas letter and cards. I thought about it in October; I knew it had to be started in November; now December is here and I haven’t started either. I guess I need to flip through some magazines or surf the web to get some inspiration.

Here is my project for you. My theme is Thanksgiving. I have done a 2-page layout. The cardstock is from my stash and I think it is all Bazzill. The printed paper and Turkey and leaves Stickers are from Reminisce from 2009.

The printing of the “tab cards” was done with the Cricut Imagine. I used the cartridges From My Kitchen and the new Imagine More. The fun cooking words were also done on the Imagine with the same 2 cartridges. The cardstock printed on was white from Recollections. (Michaels)

The large letters are from American Crafts and are Thickers. The little letters are Tiny Type from Cosmo Cricket.

Here is a close-up of my “special recipe” for this layout.

Did you figure out what I did? I made recipe box tabs and added all of my pictures from my wonderful family weekend in Ohio.

The cartridge I used was From My Kitchen for Cricut. I was lucky enough to get my new Cricut Imagine this last week so I combine the Imagine More cartridge and “colored” each card with the Imagine. I am loving the look I must say! It was like getting bonus paper because I used just white cardstock for the printing.

I printed the pictures at 4 on a page on my printer and cut them apart and trimmed the white border off.

I glued each picture to the “tab card”. I also used the From My Kitchen and Imagine More cartridges and came up with some cooking terms to add randomly to the cards.

There are 2 sets of cards because we had 2 big days of celebrating together. Besides Thanksgiving we were celebrating a teenager birthday too!

A trip to Ohio and a family gathering of Stauffers is not complete without a BIG meal at Marion’s Pizza. We are all hopelessly addicted and those of us that are out of state can’t get enough when we are visiting.

I will add a picture of how I bind the cards to the page. I think it will just be with a binder clip so it can be removed and looked at.

To be eligible for MY BLOG CANDY I just ask you to use my “recipe” on a layout and expand the number of pictures beyond the normal 4 x 6 or the visible ones on the layout. Keep it simple, I want you to have FUN! Just do a couple, cuz you know you want to try LOL.

You can make tags and use a brad to connect them. Of course you are only limited to your imagination here!

OK I am Crazy and Spoiled....

Hi all,
I have to share a few things with you and I will start with 11:01 p.m. on Monday, September 13 when my loving hubby ordered me the new Cricut Imagine. I know.... I know..... it is new... it is Provo Craft... they will probably have problems or whatever with these new items but just like all the latest gadgets, I had to have it anyway. I love my Gypsy and I got it when it came out with no problems at all, so I am willing to give them another shot. Lucky for me they had flex pay AND 3 cartridges instead of 1. It also helps that I got my bonus checks from Avon today to put towards the first payment!

I should have it by Sept 24 or maybe that is when it ships. But I will let you know! Right now it is 3:39 a.m. and they have sold over 2000 of them. I was number 580.

Hi Blog Followers! Long time, no post, sorry about that! So here is the hightlights of June for me.

I h ave been pretty busy so far this summer. Just one thing or another; Some of the usual like running child A to point C and Child C to point A..... The three kids are at a pretty good summertime age - 12 for Griffin and 9 for the twins. We have a good mix of doing stuff together and without mom!

Speaking of something without mom, I spent a wonderful 8 days with my friends Katie and Sarah in mid June. We drove to Southern Indiana and stayed at the French Lick Villas. What a beautiful part of the country that is! The three of us took our scrapbook stuff and spent the week scrapping and site seeing. It was really fun to have our scrap stuff set up for a week and being able to scrap anytime we wanted. We really did accomplish a lot. I will post pictures in the next post.

Site seeing was one of the big reasons why we chose that area because about an hour away is an Amish and Mennonite Settlement. We knew our resort ran a bus tour but had no idea how much fun we would have! We rode an hour on the bus to a restaurant where we picked up our Mennonite tour guide, Rosanna. Then we proceeded to the country roads of Dubois County, a.k.a. Amish Country. Our driver, Norris was a retired police officer and had been running this tour over 10 years. He had a route where he knew who all the families were and what was what with all of them! The Amish families knew him too and so did the children. (and his arrival time). Norris would stop at each farm that had children and open the bus door and toss out candy. The kids were either already lined up by the road or came running across the yard when the bus pulled up. It was so much fun to watch!

We also were allowed to tour a home and visit a few of their stores and quilt shops that were on their property. Pretty neat stuff, but due to no electricity it was a bit dark and VERY hot!

The Amish do not believe in being photographed as a rule, but there were families that did allow tourists to go ahead and take pics. I will show some of my favorites here.

After our tour we were at the all you could eat buffet cooked and served by Amish. Wow! that is all I can say! Then we shopped a bit more and home we went.

The reason we picked this area is of our common love for the Amish way. All three of us are avid readers of Amish romance books by such writers as Beverly Lewis and Wanda Brunstetter. Actually making this visit really has helped us with our mental picture during our reading.

The week just sailed by and we enjoyed other things such as a winery where we tasted all of their wine! And of course there was a lot of scrapping. Before we knew it we were headed home to our families. As much as we loved our trip, it was good to be home again.

I know prepare for my last trip of the summer and this time with my family. We are headed to Branson, MO and will be there during the 4th. We will take in Silver Dollar City and a water park as well as a few museums. Of course I will be hunting down the scrapbook store!

At JMS the DT love our mums/moms and to show our appreciation for everything mothers do we are celebrating mothers in our blog hop this week.

I am back and getting the hang of my new computer. Here is a new layout that I made from Three Bugs in a Rugs Savannah collection. I also used Stickles glitter glue and Smooch acrylic paints. The layout was taken from a sketch for Sketch Sunday in early April.

Hi to all Blog Hoppers and followers!

Sorry I have been MIA for a few days. My almost 3 year old laptop decided it didn't want to work on the internet anymore, this week. So, I have been without access to my blog, etc. However I have been receiving wonderful comments from you all, via my Droid phone. So glad I got that 2 weeks ago!

The good news is, I now have a wonderful new laptop and it is purple!! and so wonderful. I am transferring my files and photos and so on as we speak. It just came today, by the way...Thanks to my awesome husband, for helping me get my new one so quickly!

I will have a new layout posted later today (Friday) as we continue our blog hop for The Everyday Scrapper There is still time to play with us... (and please become a follower for me!) Here is a layout I just put together to share with you. It is based on a sketch from The Everyday Scrapper in April.

I used the new line from Three Bugs in a Rug called Savannah. I also used Thickers from American Crafts called Riki Tiki. Another fun embellishment to use were Stickles, from Ranger Arts.

Paper Roses

Hello Blog Followers,
I want to take a minute and share with you something I made for the first time, last night. They are paper flowers (suppose to be roses). I made them with 3 colors of cardstock and 1 printed paper. I cut hearts out on the cricut of 4 different sizes, layered them on a brad, worked a little glimmer mist magic and a touch of stickles and voila'- paper roses!

I am so in love with the ladies at this site. If you own a Cricut you need to visit them. I may have to stop buying any embellishments at all like stickers and rub ons and such. I really am not using my Cricut or my Gypsy to their full potential and I will really look into learning to make the items they feature!

Join my "Cheesey" Challenge at Creative Scrapbook Divas!

Hi Followers!

We are coming up on a really bizarre "holiday"- National Cheeseball Day is April 17. I used this day as the inspiration for my latest challenge at Creative Scrapbook Divas. Why, you ask? Well, it just made me think of the most common word to get people to smile, "cheese".

My challenge is for you to use 1 or more of your cheesiest photos. You know the ones, those big goofy grins that your kids just love to do. In my case it is my husband, too. The 2nd part of the challenge is to use raw chipboard and alter it. So go ahead and paint it, ink it, cover it in paper or bling; just add it to your layout!

My sample is inspired by a sketch at Let's Scrap The sketch was called Letsscrap4fun. I chose pictures of my husband and my daughter Gretchen (at age 2 1/2). And the paper is the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland. It is part of a new storybook character line from Reminisce. I just love it and those cat grins all over the page, were perfect for me.

U Crack Me Up Challenge...Check out the prizes you can win...

I just had to participate in this fun challenge. But, I just can't seem to find any embarrassing pictures of me (LOL) so I will pick on one of my kids!
This layout is from 2002 and is of one of my twins, (now 9) Gillian. In the full picture you can see big brother (then age 4) Griffin laughing so I am sure he had something to do with this. I can't even imagine why she had underwear to "play" with because she wasn't anywhere close to being potty trained.
Gillian's reaction to this layout was "mom, some day when I have a boyfriend, you will not show him this, right?" errr.... right, Gillian.... (but I didn't say I wouldn't post it on my blog; sorry kid!

And if having your underwear on your head isn't bad enough... what about that poor baby acne on her face. We never have found out what she was allergic to back then but she outgrew it.

Hi to my followers!

I hope you have enjoyed the first week of Spring! Mine started out with snow, that quickly melted. I was at a 2 day scrapbook retreat with friends- both old and new. It was at a beautiful church camp. I will share pictures here. What a blessing that weekend was for everyone!

Most of you who have been following me awhile, know I am a bit of a scrapbook junkie. Now this is not a bad thing. I remind myself of a song by Point of Grace and the words "Have what you want and want what you have..." Because of this, I have been using quite faithfully the resources I have and if I don't or can't, I share with others who can.

That said, I have to tell you about my new found scrapbook "have to have"- they are beautiful handmade clay buttons by a local scrapper, Charlene. She does a wonderful job. Until last night's LSS crop, I hadn't had the opportunity to sit and chat and get to know her. She has such a wonderful spirit about her and is so glad to be able to use the talent that God has bestowed upon her. We are all glad that she has this talent!

So here are pics of her buttons, a layout I did using them, and info to go to facebook and become a fan and leave a comment to win a set of one of a kind alphabet tag buttons!

#1 Song the Day You Were Born Challenge

at Creative Scrapbook Divas. You will need to register, please so you can play along. The challenge goes until March 7 and here are the details:

My challenge for you is to make a layout that pertains to the song that was #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 on the day you were born. The best way to find this out if you don't already know, is to Google the words "#1 song on" (and fill in day, month and year you were born. Then use the title, lyrics or even the artist as an element in your layout.
You can also go to this link Billboard Top 100
The twist I am going to give you is that you must use some sort of ink to outline your letters (title or subtitle, etc) and you must use pop dots (3D adhesive) on at least one element on the layout.

Hope you have fun with this. I chose it because myself and 3 kids all had birthdays in the month of February.
I will give one RAK to the lucky winner. It will be a package of Thickers letters from American Crafts and something extra special that will be a surprise!

Hello and welcome everyone to the last stop of My scrapbooking Supplies Blog Hop!!! I am so excited about our New Blog and our new Design Team. I am PROUD to be apart of the Spring Creative team ! I have a layout that is special to me and I wanted to share it with you. It is a sort of Valentine's Day gift for my husband. It documents in just a few pictures our lives together since we started dating in 1992.

My Scrapbooking Supplies is Having a Blog Hop!

Hello everyone! My scrapbooking Supplies and our New Creative Team are so excited about our New Blog that we are hosting our 1st Blog Hop on Monday March 1st ! Here is my take of the sketch. I used an older pattern from Sassafras Lass. The snowflakes you see scattered around are from that line. It is very unconventional for snow but it looked good with my little winter coat and I have been really wanting to use this paper. ( I LOVE Sassafras Lass!). And yes, that is me in the picture, circa 1970 with my cousin Tim and his dad, my Uncle Dennis!)
